Following completion of the online form and photos of a lump on my back, this was followed up by a phone call, and a visit to the surgery to see Dr Stanford on 24th July 2025. She sent a referral to the RD&E hospital to get an ultrasound. I was contacted by the Nightingale Hospital on 28th July with an appointment date.

Most of the Drs I have spoken with have been supportive and a fantastic representative of the Surgery, my person view obviously and I would like to personally mention Dr Amelie Heidelberg. She was a great support back in 2021 (I believe) and I delighted to see her back at the surgery. I would say “extremely likely” solely because of one exceptional nurse who completely changed my experience. From the very beginning, she showed an incredible level of empathy and understanding. She knew I was absolutely petrified of needles, not just nervous, but genuinely scared due to previous traumatic experiences and she took that seriously. Instead of rushing through like many have in the past, she went out of her way to make me feel safe and respected.
She did something no one else has ever done for me, she booked out 30 minutes just for my blood test. That small act alone meant so much. It showed me that she truly cared about my comfort and wasn’t going to just treat me like another patient on a list. I was crying before we even started, but she remained calm, gentle, and reassuring the entire time.
She took everything one step at a time. First, she wrapped the band around my arm and checked in with me. Then she placed her finger where the needle would go, just to let me get used to the sensation. Only after I felt ready did she show me the needle still with the cap on and explained everything she was going to do in the most soothing, non-threatening way possible. She didn’t rush or push me, not even for a second.
I can’t express how much her patience and professionalism meant to me. I’ve never felt that kind of care or understanding from anyone in the NHS or even in private healthcare, for that matter. She made me feel like a person, not a problem. She treated my fear with compassion, not judgment.
This nurse was truly extraordinary. She made one of my most dreaded experiences something not to be embarrassed about. That’s not just skill that’s heart. She absolutely deserves recognition, and honestly, she deserves a raise. People like her are rare, and she made a huge difference in my life that day.

Chloe was excellent. Really friendly, smiley, chatty and efficient.
In contrast, the call I had the day before to cancel my PSA blood test, was shocking and caused me great anxiety, after my appointment had been confirmed for weeks. Thank goodness I persuaded the reception not to cancel my appointment. My father, John Evans, was also a patient of yours and he died from Prostate Cancer. Hence my tests cause me great anxiety, only multiplied when you call me within 24 hours of my test to say you want to cancel my appointment.

Everytime I have previously had a problem it gets pushed down and im told theres nothing they can do. I have very severe heyfever called every year for the past 4 I believe begging for something that will help me but I was told only 120mg can fix it and they can’t do anything else? I call and I’m talked over. I had heart palpitations for 2 weeks that where so painful called and had a heart scan thing and I was sent on my way saying there was nothing wrong. The only positive was my appointment on Wednesday 21st. When I came in I assumed my I would be told my periods the problem and be pushed out like usual but the doctor took me seriously and has asked for blood test, she listened and was sympathetic, i cant remember her name but she was amazing

Top level care from the moment the phone is answered at reception. Tge reception staff are friendly, cheerful, efficient, knowledgeable, supportive and if they don’t know the answer, they will find the someone who does know ASAP. Dr Stanford is highly intuitive, empathetic, kind, supportive, warm, reassuring, patient, and thorough. She is a very experienced GP, efficient, effective, reliable, understands both mental and physical health and treats the individual as a person who has a condition, she does not merely see the condition and then gives generic advice. The Whipton Surgery is the finest example of how all GP surgeries should be snd I am so thankful to be on their books!

Since having been registered with this practice since birth when the building was further up the road, I have consistently received the same level of care which has been excellent throughout. I am now in my 68th year and have never been refused an appointment if and when I have needed one, or a callback if it is something that can be discussed over the phone. I was on time for my appointment and was seen quickly by the nurse, who was polite and very professional with giving me my Shingles vaccination. She also offered me a pneumonia vaccination which I accepted.
I expected some discomfort and I can be a baby when having injections but… on this occasion, I felt very little pain or discomfort and now, 4 hours later, I am still experiencing no pain.

My husband and I are needing more medical attention as we age. In my husband’s condition the case is more complex. Every time we have needed medical attention we have always been seen and the follow-up treatment when needed has been prompt. Doctors, nurses and receptionists work in perfect harmony. When you first approach them, and you are not feeling well, the reception team soon dissipates all anxiety. They listen, they make you feel at ease.

I have recently seen Dr Lort and Jean for bloods and cannot recommend them enough. Dr lort is a really good listener, is very thorough and I feel like she really listened and understood my problems. She doesn’t make me feel rushed in my appointment and I’ll definitely want to see her again. Jean has always been very friendly, puts you at ease and makes you feel really welcome and relaxed when taking blood, you almost forget she is jabbing you with a needle. All the other doctors are great but these two stand out in particular for me.

The Whipton Surgery staff - reception, admin, GP’s, nurses, phlebotomists, managers, are worth their weight in gold. This is a brilliantly run practice, I never feel like so am inconveniencing them, it is efficiently and effectively run, I can generally get a call back from a GP or effective advice online the same day and I am always grateful and thankful that both myself and my mum are registered with this surgery. I would recommend the Whipton Surgery to all my friends and family, and I do, regularly!

Jean who always does my bloods is the very best. If I ever have bloods anywhere else, the phlebotomist struggles to draw enough/find a vein etc. Jean is fantastic. Additionally, she is the friendliest lady, who always makes me feel at ease.

My previous Gp was a nightmare and terrible So I choose the Whippton Surgery ,This Surgery is really Amazing. .Staffs were very helpful .Quite easy to get the appointments..Doctors were very focussed to treat the patient problems and concerns. .

I telephoned the surgery at 8.30 and was given an appointment that morning
All the staff were friendly and professional
I was given a prescription and advice for the throat infection I came in for
As well as this the doctor gave me time and space to talk about my cancer diagnosis and treatment
I was given time, support and I left the surgery feeling so well listened too and so well supported
I cannot thank the doctor enough, she was just perfect!

My wife and I have been with the surgery since the late 1970s , it has seen us through cancer twice, new hips twice, and numerous other potentially serious problems, in all that time we have had nothing but complete support and care. You can consider yourself fortunate if you are joining here.
