Right to Choose – ADHD & Autism Assessments
What is Right to Choose?
If you are based in England under the NHS, you now have a legal right to choose your mental healthcare provider and your choice of mental healthcare team. This important right means that, for instance, should you decide the waiting time for your ADHD assessment is too long, then you can choose alternative providers. The provider must supply the service to the NHS somewhere in England.
Patients have the Right to Choose when the following conditions are met:
- the NHS practice is in England (different rules apply for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)
- the General Practitioner has agreed to make a clinically appropriate referral (Of note: The decision to make a referral is the GPs responsibility and separate from Right to Choose. Right to Choose is a patient’s right to decide where that referral is to)
Please be aware: almost all of these assessments will occur online unless they offer in person assessments and you are willing to attend wherever the providers’ clinics are based.
The providers may have their own individual referral forms/documents. If you are able to complete online, please do so and return to the surgery by email to whipton.surgery@nhs.net *please ensure you include your name and date of birth*
If you would like to request printing for paper copies of these documents, please let our reception team know by calling us on 01392 462770.
Right to Choose Providers
The Devon ICB only has contracts with the following providers. This means that you can have your assessment and if applicable when the time comes, we can take over your care and the prescribing of your medication. If you choose to be referred to any other provider outside of this, you are still able to have your assessment, however we will not be able to prescribe your medication. We have included some of these providers at the end of this page.
